IB-ALIGNED BIOLOGY STUDY GUIDES (CREATING & SHARING)
Strands: Creativity ✓ Activity ✕ Service ✓
Date: 26 January 2026
SINGLE EXPERIENCE
I created two IB-aligned Biology Study Guides for the upcoming standard level assessment.
The study guides vary in style and depth, with one a 35-page, topic-by-topic guide and the other a 15-page guide with a more narrative style, which were created using exclusively IB-aligned resources, with the foundation being based on four different IB textbooks, all covering the new syllabus and being from the publishers Oxford, Cambridge, Hodder, and Pearson.
The other resources used are worksheets and presentations provided by the teacher (posted on Google Classroom) and various external IB resources, such as SaveMyExams, InThinking, and BioNinja.
These were then shared with students via the Grade 11 group chat the day before the exam, receiving positive feedback from multiple students and being told in person that the study guides "saved their exams."
How did you feel after the experience and why?
I was exhausted, as truly refining the study guide, even with the help of AI, was pretty difficult, mostly due to the need for true IB-alignment.
What went well during this experience and why?
What particularly went was ensuring that the correct topics were covered, and in the correct depth. This was rather easy due to the help of various IB textbooks, which I was able to use as a basis/foundation for the study guides.
What would you do differently when/if you do it again? Why?
I would like to a list of helpful resources for Grade 11 students.
Providing a set of helpful study guides. With me possibly creating my own (as additional CAS experiences) for the select few subjects that I am very good at, such as Biology and History.
To what extent did you meet your goals?
I successfully met the goals that I set for myself; More specifically, I effectively applied my technical literacy skills to create the platform I had planned, and was able to effectively create high-quality study guides. Moreover, I found some enjoyment in this activity, both in the creative process and in particular after receiving positive feedback from Grade 11 Students and seeing exceptional engagement in multiple subject-dedicated channels.
